DLSU Lady Spikers are one step away from hitting the championship spot for the 3rd consecutive time after winning in their first game against ADMU Lady Eagles in 5 sets 20-25, 17-25, 25-22, 25-22, 15-6 last March 2, at the Araneta Coliseum.
Although ADMU took the first 2 sets, DLSU held still and snatched the last three sets. Gumabao admittedly said that they felt the intense pressure and intimidation brought by the huge crowd, causing them to commit costly errors in the first 2 sets.
Gervacio threw service aces advancing the team to a 6-point lead. Cainglet attacked in a very narrow right angles, while Valdez positioned in the middle to confuse blockers. These were just some of the combos that gave the Lady Spikers a hard time to catch up.
Looking frustrated, coach Ramil de Jesus asked the girls how badly they wanted to win. He reminded the players to stay focus on the game, do not hurry and get back to the game.
The DLSU team heated up just in time, like a diesel engine. They have built the momentum on the third set, narrowing the scores to 2 points before ADMU called for a time out. Gumabao, even though almost behind the ball, nailed the match point. DLSU finally finished the set to 25-22.
Fourth set was a critical for both teams. Still fully optimistic, DLSU's defenses were unbreakable closing the set in 25-17.
DLSU Lady Spikers eventually ended the first game before the 17,408 crowd in a 15-6 score.
It can be remembered that La Salle also came over Ateneo after the last 3 sets during their first meeting of the season, last January 12.
